Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters has now opened in Cars Land at Disney California Adventure. The all-new experience at Disneyland in California features a trackless ride system and has replaced Luigi's Flying Tyres, the floating bumper car type ride that closed last year.
The new ride, called Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters, features a fleet of 1950s-era cars spinning and twisting in a choreographed musical number. Luigi's Casa Della Tires, located at the main intersection of Radiator Springs, hasn't been removed. Instead, the iconic Cars Land building from the films continues to be used as a queue area for the new attraction.
Unlike Cars Quatre Roues Rallye in Walt Disney Studios at Disneyland Paris which features themed cars moving between rotating platforms (a highly themed Zamperla Demolition Derby) the new attraction uses a trackless system similar to Ratatouille: L’Aventure Totalement Toquée de Rémy at the same park, giving the illusion that they are moving independently.
In this all-new attraction, Luigi turns the tire storage yard behind his Casa Della Tires into a dance floor! Cars Land guests are able to ride along with Luigi’s cousins as they move and spin to upbeat Italian music, performing the traditional dances of their hometown village.
Each dancing car has its own high-spirited personality and signature dance moves – making every ride unpredictable, as you don't know which way they will turn and spin next! Take a look at how Walt Disney Imagineering created this carefully choreographed dance in this behind-the-scenes video:
