Carowinds has officially announced a massive new addition for the 2027 season, unveiling plans for a world-record-breaking super flume ride named Rip Roarin’ Falls.

The 400-acre theme park, which straddles the North Carolina and South Carolina state line, is set to deliver next-generation family thrills by combining a traditional log flume experience with cutting-edge roller coaster elements.

Manufactured by WhiteWater, the impressive attraction represents a significant investment in the park's ever-growing lineup of signature rides.

Three World Records in One Ride

Rip Roarin’ Falls is designed to push the boundaries of traditional water attractions. Carowinds has confirmed that the ride will break three distinct world records upon its debut:

  • The World’s Tallest Log Flume Drop: A massive final plunge of 100 feet.
  • The World’s Tallest Reverse Drop: A backward drop plunging 42 feet.
  • The World’s Tallest Reverse Camelback: A backward-facing airtime hill standing at 32 feet.

Riders will board eight-passenger boats for a whimsical yet thrilling 6-minute, 30-second adventure. The journey spans 2,240 feet of surging waters, utilising two high-speed reversing switches to seamlessly change the boat's direction. This allows guests to experience the record-setting drops both forward and backward, concluding with a 100-foot mega drop that reaches top speeds of 50 mph before an iconic splashdown.

Immersive Storytelling and Location

The new attraction features a detailed storyline themed around an abandoned, allegedly haunted lumber mill. As the boats navigate the picturesque terrain, passengers will encounter various atmospheric surprises before tackling the coaster-like drops.

Construction is already underway on the former site of Rip Roarin’ Rapids, a popular river rapids ride that was retired in 2019. The new loading station for Rip Roarin’ Falls has been specially engineered to maximise rider capacity and minimise wait times. Guests will be able to access the ride via the Thrill Zone section of the park, situated near the world-renowned Fury 325 giga coaster.

Bridgette Bywater, Park President, said:

“This level of investment and innovation is a true testament of our team’s commitment to bringing legendary attractions and world-class experiences to the Carolinas. As a new signature ride, it combines record-setting thrills and cutting-edge ride innovation, all with a 35-inch height requirement that makes it accessible for families.”
