Great Coasters International are working with Holiday World to enhance their iconic wooden roller coaster The Legend, as the theme park celebrates its 70th birthday.
The Legend is reborn in 2016, with 1,335 feet of new track, the addition of a fifth tunnel and a new double-down element. There will also be some work done to the other two wooden roller coasters, The Raven and The Voyage.
The theme of The Legend wooden roller coaster is The Legend of Sleepy
Hollow, as riders race through the woods as if chased in terror by the
relentless Headless Horseman. It opened at Holiday World in 2000 and is often ranked among the world's top wooden roller coasters.
The most dramatic drops on The Legend measure 113 feet, 77 feet, and 64 feet (the 77-foot drop features the world’s first spiral drop). The double helix throws riders from side to side and the disorienting finish will have a new double-down feature added in 2016.
