Valleyfair, the largest amusement park in the Twin Cities, has announced a significant expansion to its waterpark facilities as it prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary season.
The new Superior Shores Waterpark is set to open on Saturday, 23 May 2026, introducing 13 new attractions. The expansion increases the park’s total number of water-based experiences to 24, strengthening its position as a top summer destination in Minnesota.
The project is designed to blend high-energy thrills with family-friendly areas, offering a "lakeside vibe" that honours the park's five decades of history.
New Attractions at Superior Shores
The expansion features two primary new zones designed for different age groups:
- Lighthouse Landing: A multi-slide tower featuring three tube slides and a dual-mat racing slide for guests seeking speed and competition.
- Minnow Bay: A dedicated lagoon for younger swimmers and families, featuring eight kid-friendly slides and various interactive water elements.
- Refreshed Entrance: The arrival experience at the waterpark has been reimagined to improve guest flow and immersion from the moment they enter.
These new additions join existing favourites such as the Breakers Bay Wave Pool, the Superior Plunge speed slides, and the Ripple Rapids lazy river.
New Ownership and Management
The 2026 season marks a new chapter for the park following its acquisition by Enchanted Parks, the third-largest privately held theme park company in the United States. James Harhi, CEO of Enchanted Parks, stated that the company is committed to investing in the park's team and the local community.
"This expansion starts an exciting new chapter for Valleyfair," said Stephen Summers, Park President. "All season long we will celebrate 50 years of providing summer traditions and fun-filled memories for families".
Visiting Valleyfair in 2026
Valleyfair is located on 125 acres in Shakopee, Minnesota, and features over 75 rides, including eight roller coasters.
- Opening Dates: The main park opens for its 50th anniversary season on Sunday, 10 May 2026. Superior Shores Waterpark will debut its new attractions on 23 May.
- Passholder Preview: Season passholders can attend an exclusive preview day on Saturday, 9 May.
- Admission: Access to Superior Shores Waterpark is included with standard park admission.
- Season Passes: Enchanted Parks season passes start at $65.99 and provide unlimited admission to Valleyfair and other Enchanted Parks locations.
