LEGOLAND California Resort has officially opened LEGO Galaxy, a massive 2.4-acre immersive land that marks one of the most significant expansions in the park's 27-year history.
The new area, which opened to the public on March 6, 2026, is part of a major dual-coast investment by Merlin Entertainments that also saw a sister land debut at LEGOLAND Florida late last month.
Custom Thrills on the Galacticoaster
The centerpiece of LEGO Galaxy is the Galacticoaster, the park's first new roller coaster in over two decades. This isn't a standard off-the-shelf ride; it is an indoor, space-themed family coaster that prioritizes personalization.
Before boarding, guests visit Customization Bays where they work in teams of four to digitally design their own spacecraft. With over 625 possible combinations of noses, tails, and wings - plus quirky features like disco balls - the ride experience feels unique to every group. Using an RFID wristband, riders can actually see themselves piloting their custom creation during the high-speed mission.
"Guests can design and ride their own spacecraft on Galacticoaster, and explore detailed, large-scale models built from more than 583,000 LEGO bricks across this land," said Rob Smith, COO of Merlin Entertainments.
A Galaxy of Attractions
Beyond the coaster, the land offers a variety of experiences tailored to different age groups:
- G-Force Test Facility: A family-friendly ride designed to simulate the swinging and tilting forces astronauts face during training.
- Rocket Assembly Bay: A high-tech building zone where guests can build physical LEGO rockets, scan them, and watch them launch into a digital cyberspace.
- Junior Astronaut Training Zone: A dedicated play area for toddlers to explore the cosmos at their own pace.
- DUPLO Launch and Land: A flight-training simulator specifically designed for the youngest space cadets.
Intergalactic Dining and Entertainment
To round out the immersion, the land features several new food and beverage outlets. The U.F.O. (Ultimate Food Outlet) serves up themed dishes like Nebula Noodles and Stellar Crusts, while Stardust Sips & Sweets offers cosmic desserts.
Guests can also catch the new live show, Mission: Blast Off!, at the Fun Town Stage. The interactive dance party runs three times daily and features a meet-and-greet with the Space Creature and the Astro Dancers.
