Six Flags Over Texas has announced that the grand opening of its highly anticipated, record-breaking roller coaster, Tormenta Rampaging Run, has been officially postponed.

The attraction, which was originally scheduled to make its public debut on 26 June 2026 as part of the park's 65th anniversary celebrations, has had its launch paused due to delays in the final testing phases.

In a statement, park officials explained that the commissioning and testing process for the massive new coaster is taking longer than initially anticipated. As a result, opening plans have been temporarily put on hold. The park stated that they will share a new official opening date as soon as possible, adding: "We sincerely appreciate your patience as we prepare to Drop the Gate."

The delay follows the recent cancellation of a media preview event that was originally scheduled for 25 June. While the coaster entered its physical testing phase in late May, the intricate electromechanical and commissioning work required for a ride of this scale has meant safety teams need more time before welcoming the public.

When it does open, Tormenta Rampaging Run is set to completely redefine the park's skyline and secure a historic place in amusement park history. Designed by renowned manufacturer Bolliger & Mabillard, the attraction is being billed as the world's first "giga dive coaster" - a classification given to dive coasters that exceed a height of 300 feet.

The ride is a multi-record-breaker, claiming six world records within the dive coaster category, including the titles of tallest, fastest, and longest.

Set within a brand-new, immersive Spanish-themed village called Rancho de la Tormenta, the ride layout is inspired by the chaotic energy of the running of the bulls. Brave riders are carried up a massive lift hill to a staggering 309 feet above the ground, offering sweeping panoramic views of Arlington, the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, and the rest of the Six Flags park below.

The signature thrill of the experience comes at the summit. Just before making the terrifying 285-foot first drop, the train pauses completely over the physical edge of the track for three seconds. This hanging sensation forces riders to stare directly down a beyond-vertical, 95-degree drop before the brakes release.

Once unleashed, the train begins its "rampaging run", accelerating to a top speed of 87 mph. The 4,199-foot steel layout features four inversions, including a massive 218-foot-tall Immelmann loop and a world-record 179-foot vertical loop.

While thrill-seekers will have to wait a little longer to experience the world's ultimate dive coaster, work continues steadily behind the scenes in Arlington to complete the surrounding plaza, pathways, and the new Cocina Abuela restaurant.

Theme Parks US will bring you updates on the revised opening schedule for Tormenta Rampaging Run as soon as they are announced by the park.
