Universal Orlando Resort has officially confirmed that The Lost Continent themed land at Universal Islands of Adventure will close permanently to make way for a major new development.

The transition will occur in phases over the coming months, marking the end of one of the park’s original opening-day areas.

This expected announcement signals a significant shift for Universal Islands of Adventure as it moves away from its original mythology-driven concepts toward new immersive storytelling experiences.

The End of an Award-Winning Era for Mythos

Perhaps the most notable impact of the closure is the departure of Mythos Restaurant. Renowned globally for its distinctive grotto-style architecture and high-quality Mediterranean-inspired cuisine, Mythos has been a cornerstone of the park since 1999.

  • Closing Timeline: Mythos is currently scheduled to remain in operation until 2027, allowing fans a final window to visit.
  • Legacy: The restaurant is frequently cited as one of the best theme park dining locations in the world, having won numerous industry awards for its service and atmosphere.
  • New Dining on the Horizon: To ensure guests still have access to premium sit-down dining, Universal also announced that Thunder Falls Terrace in the nearby Jurassic Park section will close this summer. It is set to reopen in 2027 as a new signature full-service restaurant for the park.

Phased Closures and Development

While a specific replacement has not yet been named, the redevelopment follows the 2023 closure of the Poseidon’s Fury walkthrough attraction. Construction walls have already begun appearing around various structures within the land, and the remaining shops and walkthrough experiences are expected to shutter in stages.

The Lost Continent was originally a sprawling land that included the Dueling Dragons roller coasters and the Enchanted Oak Tavern. Over the years, much of the area was absorbed into the expansion of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, leaving the current "Ancient Myths" section as the last remnant of the land's original footprint.

Future Expansion

Universal Orlando Resort stated that this overhaul is part of its ongoing "unprecedented momentum" following the debut of Epic Universe. Details regarding the theme of the new land are expected to be shared in the months ahead, with many industry observers speculating on the arrival of popular global franchises to fill the space. For now, visitors to Islands of Adventure can still enjoy the atmosphere of the Lost Continent and the award-winning menu at Mythos before the final columns of this ancient land are cleared for the next chapter of the park's history.
