Long Island’s popular family amusement park Adventureland has officially opened its newest star attraction: Wave Twister.

If you’ve ever wanted to feel the rush of surfing a massive ocean swell without actually getting wet, this is the ride for you. As the first of its kind in the world, Wave Twister offers a unique swaying and spinning sensation that is perfect for families looking for a bit more oomph than a kiddie ride, but without the extreme intensity of a massive coaster.

What’s it like to ride?

Imagine a giant, L-shaped track that reaches 50 feet into the air. Now, imagine sitting in a circular carriage that doesn't just slide back and forth, but spins in circles at the same time!

As you travel along the 280-foot track, the ride mimics the motion of a boomerang. You’ll sweep upward, twist around the bend, and feel the weightless sensation of a wave cresting before you slide back down. It’s smooth, dizzying in the best way possible, and offers a completely different feeling than anything else in the park.

A View Like No Other

One of the coolest things about the Wave Twister isn't just the ride itself, but where it's located. To save space in the park, engineers actually built the ride directly over the Adventureland Railroad, so as you soar through the air, you’ll be spinning right above the train tracks. This clever design makes the ride stand out as a new landmark, you can see the bright gondolas twisting high above the trees from almost anywhere in the park.

"We are so excited for families to experience Wave Twister," says Steven Gentile, President of Adventureland. "It’s a unique ride that we know will be a favorite for many years to come."

Ready to Ride?

Wave Twister is designed to be a family thrill ride, meaning it's big enough for teens to love but gentle enough for younger adventurers.

  • Height Requirement: To ride alone, you’ll need to be 48” tall, but younger explorers can hop on with an adult if they are at least 36” tall.
  • Where to find it: Head over to the section of the park near the train line.

Whether you’re a lifelong fan of Adventureland or planning your first trip of the 2026 season, the Wave Twister is a must-do on your next visit. Grab your sunglasses and get ready to catch the ultimate Long Island wave!
