We had the privilege of experiencing COTALAND during its exclusive VIP and media Grand Preview. Stepping into the park for this preview event gave us a fantastic opportunity to see firsthand what this brand-new destination brings to Texas, and we are excited to share our thoughts on what the park does so well alongside a few areas for future enhancement.

An Exclusive First Look at the Grand Preview
The invitation-only Grand Preview on Friday, September 25, set the stage for an unforgettable weekend at Circuit of The Americas. Media and VIP guests arrived for check-in at 4:00 PM before the gates officially swung open at 5:00 PM, offering an advance opportunity to explore the park, sample the culinary offerings, and check out the attractions before the public Grand Opening celebration on September 26 and 27.
The evening featured special ceremonial highlights, including a ribbon cutting and First Ride Ceremony alongside celebrity guests and VIP attendees. Later in the evening at 7:00 PM, guests gathered in T20 Central Park for a celebratory toast and remarks from park leadership. The night concluded in spectacular fashion at 8:55 PM with a vibrant fireworks display lighting up the Austin sky, providing a truly magical launch for Texas' newest theme park.

The Employees Are the Standout
The first thing we want to say about COTALAND is this: the employees are absolutely amazing.
From our interactions throughout the preview event, the staff and management were consistently friendly, welcoming, and genuinely invested in ensuring guests were having a great time.
One specific moment during our preview experience really stood out.
We were riding Palindrome when the attraction experienced an unexpected evacuation. Once we were safely escorted off the ride, multiple members of management and staff were already waiting for us. They brought us bottled water, checked on everyone individually, apologised for the inconvenience, and even offered complimentary food. They also collected our email information to follow up with return tickets.
We have experienced ride evacuations at other parks before, but we have never personally witnessed that many members of leadership step up immediately to make sure everyone felt cared for.
That made a lasting impression on us.
The way the staff interacted with guests gave us a distinctively Disney-like feeling. They were approachable, warm, and seemed genuinely thrilled to be part of the team. For a brand-new park finding its footing, that cultural foundation is invaluable.
A Simple, Easy-to-Navigate Layout
COTALAND features a very straightforward physical layout.
The park essentially relies on one main pathway leading from the entrance toward Circuit Breaker Bay. We compare it to a shotgun-style house, where you can easily sight down the path from one end to the other.
For a new park, we think this design works wonderfully.
It is remarkably easy to navigate, meaning guests never waste time wondering where they are supposed to go. The layout also ties in seamlessly with the Circuit of The Americas property, running neatly alongside the famous track.
More importantly, the layout hints at major future growth.
Near Palindrome, for example, there are clear pockets of space primed for expansion. A snack-bar location sits right before the bridge, and additional construction potential exists across the street where the ride tracks course through.
This layout suggests that COTALAND has plenty of room to grow substantially over time, which is one of the most exciting takeaways from our visit. We are excited to see what this footprint looks like three, five, or ten years down the line.

The Ride Variety Is Impressive
For a debuting destination, COTALAND has done an admirable job assembling a diverse roster of attractions.
The lineup successfully balances major thrill rides, intermediate experiences, family rides, and dedicated children’s attractions. At the absolute peak of the thrill lineup sit two standout coasters, which are Circuit Breaker and Palindrome.
Circuit Breaker quickly became our favourite ride in the park. As Texas' only tilt coaster, it delivers a unique trick and drop sequence that cannot be found anywhere else in the state.
Palindrome proved to be another fantastic surprise. It offers a totally different ride profile than Circuit Breaker, creating a strong one-two punch for thrill-seekers.
Further down the thrill scale, the intermediate attractions, including dynamic swing rides, a towering drop structure, and a classic pirate ship, add solid mid-tier excitement. Meanwhile, family offerings like Soggy Logger, which fits up to four people in a single boat, provide a welcome escape during hot Texas afternoons.
Overall, COTALAND has ensured there is a solid something-for-everyone appeal right out of the gate.
Podium Pass Fine-Tuning Opportunities
We had the chance to test out the Podium Pass Ultimate during our preview visit, and this is an area where we noticed a few ways the experience could be made even smoother.
As the park continues to welcome guests, ensuring clear on-ground communication regarding access points will be a helpful addition.
For instance, at Soggy Logger, we walked up toward the main entrance to check where the Podium Pass entrance was located. We eventually tracked down a team member holding a directional sign, but making the lane even more prominent will be a great enhancement.
Adding prominent, dedicated entrance signage similar to systems used at mature theme parks would streamline the experience seamlessly for passholders.

Enhancing Flow and Speeding Up Service
Operationally, the biggest opportunity we noticed lies at Circuit Breaker.
As the park's anchor attraction, its loading platform can get quite busy. After navigating the queue, guests enter a holding bay to choose their specific row, which can lead to moments of crowd congestion. Ensuring every available seat is filled efficiently is a natural goal for any popular new coaster.
Stationing a team member at the entrance of the loading bay to manage incoming queues would help maintain wonderful order. Alternatively, introducing an assigned seating model, similar to the approach utilised on Tormenta at Six Flags Over Texas, could pre-organise crowds, fill every available seat, and keep dispatch intervals tight.
As more thrill-seekers discover the park, efficient queue management will be a fantastic asset for this high-demand coaster.
Another operational feature worth looking forward to is the potential introduction of dedicated beverage and refill stations.
Currently, food stands handle both meal and drink transactions simultaneously. Introducing drink-only refill kiosks, similar to systems found at other major parks, would let souvenir cup holders bypass food lines entirely.
Promoting a dedicated refill fast-track would drastically elevate guest satisfaction, especially under the blazing Texas sun, and give visitors even more time to enjoy the attractions.
The Hot Lap Is an Unmatched Experience
One of the absolute highlights of our preview visit was experiencing the Hot Lap.
Getting strapped into a specialised vehicle alongside professional drivers to fly around the Circuit of The Americas track at breathtaking speeds was unforgettable.
The staff running the experience were exceptional, delivering thorough safety briefings before departure. The rules make complete sense: empty your pockets, keep your hands free, and avoid touching or distracting the driver while speeding down the asphalt at roughly 140 to 150 mph. Guests are given clear instructions on where to grip the overhead handles or door structures, and yes, they even feature motion-sickness bags built right into the doors!
The ride is silky smooth, wildly exhilarating, and completely distinct from anything a traditional amusement park can offer. As a fun bonus, we were able to wear our Ray-Ban Meta glasses securely underneath the safety helmet, capturing a perspective we won't forget anytime soon.

COTALAND Is Thriving in Its Opening Chapter
COTALAND is brand new, and stepping in during the preview phase showcased a vibrant destination coming to life.
What impressed us most was how proactively COTALAND engaged with visitors to hear their thoughts. Following our preview experience, we received follow-up surveys checking in on our impressions and enhancement ideas. Coupled with our direct conversations with management and front-line staff throughout the day, it is abundantly clear that the leadership team is dedicated to listening to guest feedback and building something truly special.
Our Overall Thoughts
Our preview experience at COTALAND was overwhelmingly positive.
Circuit Breaker anchors the park brilliantly as an unmissable, endlessly repeatable thrill, complemented nicely by Palindrome and a well-rounded ride roster. But beyond the hardware, what excites us most is the sheer potential.
COTALAND feels like chapter one of a much larger story. The expansive acreage surrounding the current footprint, combined with receptive management and a wildly enthusiastic staff, creates a unique atmosphere. Chatting with local team members like Jose at Circuit Breaker, whose pride in having a world-class attraction in his Austin hometown was palpable, highlighted just how much this project means to the area.
The foundation is rock-solid, the rides are thrilling, the team members are phenomenal, and the vision behind it is driven by a genuine desire to excel.
We cannot wait to return soon to watch COTALAND evolve into its full potential!
