Six Flags Great America has announced a major multi-year investment in its family offerings, anchored by an all-new themed land scheduled to open in 2027.
Titled Camp Timber Trail, the new area will transform the park's historic Yukon Territory section into an expansive, nature-inspired wilderness adventure. The project represents one of the largest family-focused investments in the park’s 50-year history and marks the first phase of a broader multi-year upgrade across the 300-acre resort.
Sky Hawk Leads Nine Attractions and Experiences
At the centre of Camp Timber Trail is Sky Hawk, a new signature suspended family coaster that will hold the record as the longest, tallest, and fastest coaster of its type in the Midwest. The attraction is designed to glide riders through the forest canopy, offering sweeping views of the surrounding woodland terrain.
In total, Camp Timber Trail will bring together nine attractions, blending brand-new construction with reimagined fan favourites and long-standing classics.
New Attractions
- Sky Hawk: The flagship suspended family roller coaster weaving through treetops.
- Trail Trotters: An interactive wilderness trek designed for young explorers to discover woodland wildlife.
- Forest Grove Play Park: A large-scale outdoor climbing and play area crafted with nature-based elements.
Rethemed and Refreshed Favorites
Four existing family rides are receiving complete visual and narrative overhauls to fit the rustic camp motif:
- Chirp Chaser (formerly Sprocket Rockets): A bird-themed family flight coaster.
- Wilderness Wagon (formerly Crazy Bus): A rustic wagon ride through the simulated wilderness.
- Creek Cruiser (formerly Yahoo River): A scenic, relaxing boat tour inspired by natural waterways.
- Bee Boppin' (formerly Buzzy Beez): A refreshed iteration of the classic gentle spinner.
Rounding out the land are two historic attractions that will be seamlessly integrated into the new theme: the Little Dipper wooden coaster and the Logger's Run flume ride.
A Multi-Year Transformation Begins
The introduction of Camp Timber Trail honours the heritage of the Yukon Territory section, which has been a staple of Six Flags Great America since its opening in 1976.
Park President John Krajnak highlighted that this investment focuses heavily on shared family memories while kicking off a wider, three-to-five-year effort to modernize the entire property. Guests visiting over the coming seasons can expect property-wide beautification efforts, including upgraded walkways, enhanced landscaping, refreshed guest amenities, and improved park infrastructure.
Alongside the rides, Camp Timber Trail will feature themed dining options, specialty woodland treats, unique merchandise, and detailed environmental storytelling throughout the pathways.
