LEGOLAND Florida Resort is set to welcome back one of its most cherished family attractions just in time for National Roller Coaster Day on 16 August 2026.
Following an extensive reconstruction project, Coastersaurus, the state's only fully wooden roller coaster, is reopening with major enhancements designed to extend its operational lifespan for another two to three decades.
A Major Investment in a Family Favourite
For over two decades, Coastersaurus has provided thrilling yet accessible moments for young theme park enthusiasts and families alike. Rather than retiring or replacing the iconic attraction, park management elected to undertake a complete rebuild. The overhaul was carefully designed to preserve the classic charm and character of a traditional wooden coaster while delivering a smoother, more comfortable, and highly reliable ride experience for a new generation of visitors.
The comprehensive project included:
- Complete Wooden Structure Replacement: The entire timber framework was rebuilt from the ground up to ensure long term structural integrity and a smoother track feel.
- Modernised Operational and Electrical Systems: Upgraded control technology boosts day-to-day dispatch reliability and operational efficiency.
- New Braking System: An updated braking apparatus ensures gentler and more controlled deceleration at the end of the circuit.
- Refreshed Infrastructure: Broader cosmetic and structural maintenance across the surrounding station and queue areas.
- Enhanced Safety Monitoring: Advanced computer monitoring tools were added to assist ride operators in maintaining strict safety protocols.
Preserving a Piece of Florida Theme Park History
Coastersaurus holds a unique distinction in the Sunshine State. As Florida's sole operating fully wooden roller coaster, it offers a classic riding sensation that stands out amongst the region's vast array of steel scream machines and hybrid coasters.
Located in the Land of Adventure section of the Winter Haven park, the coaster originally opened during the park's earlier era as Cypress Gardens before being reimagined with a prehistoric LEGO theme when LEGOLAND Florida opened in 2011.
With this significant capital investment, LEGOLAND Florida has ensured that its historic wooden coaster will remain a staple of the park's lineup, keeping families roaring with excitement for another 20 to 30 years.
