Construction has reached a major milestone at Six Flags Over Texas with the completion of the world’s tallest Immelmann inversion on Tormenta Rampaging Run, the park’s upcoming headline attraction for 2026.
The all-new coaster, currently under construction at the original Six Flags park, is being billed as the world’s first giga dive coaster, rising more than 300 feet and combining the scale of a giga coaster with the signature vertical drop and very wide trains associated with dive machines.
A Historic Element at Record-Breaking Scale
According to Six Flags, the Immelmann inversion was completed on January 20, 2026. Once the coaster opens, riders will crest the 309-foot lift hill, pause briefly at the top, and then plunge down a 285-foot, 95-degree beyond-vertical drop. Immediately following the drop, the train will race into the massive Immelmann inversion at speeds of up to 87 mph, sending riders upside down 218 feet above the ground.
That height makes it the tallest Immelmann inversion ever built, surpassing all previous coaster installations worldwide.
The Immelmann maneuver has its roots in aviation history, named after World War I pilot Max Immelmann, who developed the technique as a combat escape maneuver. The element consists of a half-loop followed by a half-roll, reversing direction while gaining altitude — a motion that has become a favorite among modern roller coaster designers.
Six World Records Claimed
When Tormenta Rampaging Run opens in 2026, Six Flags says the coaster will set or break six world records, including:
-
Tallest Dive Coaster – 309 feet
-
Fastest Dive Coaster – 87 mph
-
Longest Dive Coaster – 4,199 feet of track
-
Tallest Vertical Coaster Loop – 179 feet
-
Highest Immelmann Inversion – 218 feet
-
Highest Beyond-Vertical Drop – 285 feet at 95 degrees
The ride’s scale will dramatically alter the skyline of the Arlington park and place Six Flags Over Texas back into the global spotlight for record-breaking attractions.
Part of a Major Anniversary Year
The opening of Tormenta Rampaging Run will coincide with the park’s 65th anniversary in 2026, as Six Flags Over Texas debuted on August 1, 1961, becoming the first park in the Six Flags chain and helping define the modern regional theme park industry in the United States.
Six Flags has said that the anniversary celebration will extend beyond the new coaster, with plans for new entertainment, food and beverage offerings, ride enhancements, and park-wide beautification projects throughout the season.
