Universal Orlando Resort has officially announced its next major attraction for Universal Studios Florida: Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, a high-speed outdoor roller coaster scheduled to open in 2027.

The new attraction will replace the park’s previous signature roller coaster, Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, marking a significant shift in both thrill level and intellectual property focus for the front of Universal Studios Florida.

According to Universal, Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will immerse guests directly into the Fast & Furious film franchise with a coaster experience built around speed, precision, and extreme maneuvers.

A Coaster Built Around Speed and “Drifting”

Universal describes Hollywood Drift as a high-octane roller coaster that will simulate the sensation of 360-degree drifting. Among the new ride’s signature elements is a 170-foot vertical spike, which will launch riders nearly 17 stories into the air, towering over the edge of Universal CityWalk before reversing course.

While Universal has not yet released full technical specifications, the emphasis on drifting suggests a ride system designed to deliver controlled lateral motion rather than traditional straight-line speed alone—potentially making it one of the more unique coaster experiences in the resort’s lineup.

A New Chapter for Universal Studios Florida

Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will join Universal Orlando Resort’s growing portfolio of thrill rides and roller coasters, reinforcing the company’s focus on large-scale, franchise-driven attractions. Universal also said that although Universal Studios Hollywood will debut its own version of Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift in 2026, the two coasters will not be identical.

As part of the transition to the new attraction, Fast & Furious – Supercharged will permanently close in 2027, ending the long-running screen-based ride that has been a point of mixed reception among fans since its debut.
