Disneyland Resort has officially announced one of the most significant updates in the history of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge: a major expansion of the land’s timeline that will introduce new eras, characters, and storytelling to the immersive destination at Disneyland Park.
A Galaxy Far, Far Away — with More Eras Than Ever Before
Beginning April 29, 2026, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland will move beyond its original setting between Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The expanded approach allows the remote outpost of Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu to serve as a crossroads for stories from across the Star Wars saga.
Guests will encounter experiences inspired by multiple eras, including the time of the Galactic Empire, the New Republic, and the Resistance, creating a more flexible and dynamic narrative environment throughout the land.
Iconic Star Wars Characters Arrive on Batuu
As part of the expanded timeline, several legendary Star Wars characters will begin appearing in Galaxy’s Edge, including:
-
Darth Vader, representing the might of the Galactic Empire
-
Luke Skywalker, in search of ancient Force-related knowledge
-
Princess Leia Organa, rallying allies for the Rebel cause
-
Han Solo, frequently spotted near the Millennium Falcon
These characters will join existing fan favorites already appearing in the land, such as Rey, Chewbacca, The Mandalorian, Grogu, Ahsoka Tano, and R2-D2, creating a richer and more varied lineup of encounters for guests.
Enhanced Atmosphere and Immersion
The update also brings changes designed to deepen immersion throughout Batuu. Guests will hear familiar musical themes from across the Star Wars saga, with selections drawn from John Williams’ iconic scores adding emotional texture to different areas of the land.
Several locations will receive subtle visual and narrative updates to reflect the broader timeline. Retail and themed spaces will showcase artifacts and details from different eras of galactic history, while experiences like Droid Depot will incorporate new storytelling elements that hint at earlier periods of droid development.
A Major Evolution for Galaxy’s Edge
This expanded timeline marks a major shift in how Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge operates as a themed environment. Rather than being locked into a single moment in the Star Wars chronology, Batuu will now act as a living location shaped by the wider galaxy and its history.
For guests, this means greater variety in character encounters, atmosphere, and storytelling — whether visiting Galaxy’s Edge for the first time or returning for repeat adventures. When the update launches in spring 2026, Disneyland visitors can expect a more expansive and cinematic Star Wars experience that celebrates the full scope of the saga.
