Walt Disney World Resort has shared the very first story details for Monstropolis, the highly anticipated new land currently under construction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The newly released details explain exactly how we, the human guests, will finally step through the closet doors and into the monster world.

The entire land is themed around "H.U.M.A.N. Day", which stands for "Humans Understand Monsters Are Nice." This citywide celebration serves as the backdrop for your visit, picking up right after the events of the original Monsters, Inc. (2001) film.

Moving From Screams to Laughter

As fans know, comedic duo James P. Sullivan and Mike Wazowski discovered that human laughter generates far more power than screams. This breakthrough didn't just solve the city's energy crisis; it completely changed how monsters view the human world. Instead of running away from a "2319" decontamination emergency, monsters are now eager to meet us.

To get the city ready for its first-ever human tourists, Monstropolis has set up the brand-new Department of Human Relations. This comical team is tasked with helping monsters understand human behaviour and smoothing the transition from fear to fun, setting the stage for a massive cultural exchange.

Exploring the Streets of Monstropolis

As construction walls go up and steel begins to rise at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar Animation Studios are working to bring a fully functional monster city to life.

The land will features vibrant streets, active monster industries, and iconic locations straight from the big screen. Here is what guests can look forward to exploring:

  • Harryhausen’s: The legendary, hard-to-get-into sushi restaurant where monsters line up for tables.
  • The Glob Theater: A major entertainment hub that brings extra personality and energy to the city centre.
  • Monstrous Dining & Shopping: Unique storefronts and eateries where you can sample local monster cuisine and pick up quirky souvenirs.

The land aims to offer a complete sensory experience where families can interact face-to-face with the citizens of Monstropolis, explore their everyday world, and experience a society powered entirely by joy.

Disney plans to share further details, opening timelines, and ride specifics for the land at a later date.
