Mid America Adventure has announced that Justice League: Battle for Metropolis, its flagship interactive dark ride, will close following its current operational run.
The sudden announcement marks one of the most significant attraction updates made by the park's new management team, Enchanted Parks.
End of an Era for DC Comics Plaza
Mid America Adventure, formerly known as Six Flags St. Louis before being acquired and rebranded by Enchanted Parks, issued an official statement regarding the ride's upcoming closure:
“After years of helping save Metropolis from Lex Luthor and The Joker, Justice League: Battle for Metropolis is preparing for its next chapter.
As Mid America Adventure continues to evolve, this iconic attraction will soon close to make way for a completely reimagined future experience. While we're not ready to reveal what's coming next, we can tell you this: the next two weekends will be your final chance to ride Justice League: Battle for Metropolis as you know it today.
Whether you're chasing a personal best score, introducing a first-time rider, or reliving favorite memories, now is the time to answer the call one last time.
Don't miss your final chance to join the Justice League and save Metropolis.”
While park officials have remained tight-lipped regarding specific replacement plans, the removal of the high-profile dark ride aligns with a broader series of changes across the property as Enchanted Parks shifts away from the legacy Six Flags intellectual property and transitions into its new operating era.
The Legacy of a Dark Ride Pioneer
Opening at the park on June 5, 2015, Justice League: Battle for Metropolis represented a major leap forward for regional theme park dark rides. Manufactured by Sally Dark Rides in partnership with Oceaneering International, Pure Imagination Studios, and Alterface, the attraction replaced Scooby-Doo! Ghostblasters: The Mystery of the Scary Swamp.
Combining dynamic motion-base vehicles, full-scale animatronics, digital projection screens, and interactive laser-shooting mechanics, the ride set a new benchmark for dark rides outside of major resort destinations like Disney or Universal. During its inaugural season, it was widely praised by industry observers and guests alike for bringing complex dark ride technology to a regional market.
Where Else to Catch the Battle
Though the Mid America Adventure installation is coming to an end, the attraction leaves behind a substantial footprint. Theme park enthusiasts looking to experience the ride elsewhere can still find active installations at the following parks:
- Six Flags Over Texas (Arlington, TX) — Opened May 2015
- Six Flags Great America (Gurnee, IL) — Opened May 2016
- Six Flags Over Georgia (Austell, GA) — Opened May 2017
- Six Flags Great Adventure (Jackson, NJ) — Opened June 2017
- Six Flags Magic Mountain (Valencia, CA) — Opened July 2017
With only two weekends remaining, local guests have a short window left to log their final high scores before the Hall of Justice facade shuts its doors for good. Stay tuned to Theme Parks US as further updates emerge regarding Mid America Adventure's future expansion plans.
