Lagoon Amusement Park is giving its classic Jet Star 2 zone a massive overhaul for 2027, announcing that a brand-new single-rail roller coaster named J3 Grand Prix will open in July 2027.

Engineered by Intamin, J3 Grand Prix marks a major milestone as the very first Hot Racer model to hit the United States.

The announcement was made inside the park, in front of an audience of guests.

The custom layout features 1,746 feet of track, packing in 13 distinct moments of pure weightlessness, three upside-down inversions, and a dual-launch setup. Reaching a maximum height of 50 feet and a top speed of 40 mph, the ride utilizes unique cockpit seating built directly over the single rail. Thanks to this inline seating design, the 102-second run feels significantly faster than the statistics suggest.

While single-rail coasters in the United States are most commonly associated with RMC (Rocky Mountain Construction), whose Raptor model put the style on the map with installations like Jersey Devil Coaster and Wonder Woman Flight of Courage, J3 Grand Prix takes a different path.

Hot Racer is Intamin's proprietary single-rail model, which the manufacturer designs around dynamic launches rather than the traditional lift hill and drop approach utilized by RMC.

The very first Hot Racer built by Intamin opened in 2021 at Luna Park Sydney, Australia. Having experienced their Big Dipper firsthand, we're confident that J3 Grand Prix will prove to be a brilliant addition to Lagoon's ride line-up when it debuts next summer.
