Busch Gardens Tampa Bay has announced that its iconic roller coaster, Kumba, will close permanently this summer after 33 years of operation.
Thrill-seekers have until 2 August to experience the legendary ride before it takes its final roar.
Debuting back in 1993, Kumba quickly became a pioneer in the theme park world, setting a new benchmark for steel roller coasters.
When it first opened, it held the title of Florida’s tallest, fastest, and longest roller coaster, whilst also boasting the world’s tallest vertical loop. Renowned for its seven exhilarating inversions and its distinct, thunderous roar created by its hollow track design, the coaster has cemented its status as a true park icon.
Kumba’s Revenge
However, the end of Kumba marks the beginning of a major new chapter for the Florida theme park.
Busch Gardens has revealed that the spirit of the ride will live on through a brand-new attraction named Kumba’s Revenge. The upcoming addition is part of a massive 100 million dollar investment aimed at elevating the overall guest experience and maintaining its position as Florida’s premier destination for thrill-seekers.
Whilst specific details regarding the new ride type and opening date are yet to be disclosed, park officials have described Kumba’s Revenge as an extension of the legendary coaster that will carry its story into a new era of thrills.
For over three decades, Kumba has been a rite of passage for coaster enthusiasts visiting Tampa Bay. Whilst its retirement marks the end of an era, the promise of a multi-million dollar successor ensures that the legend of Kumba is far from over.
Last Chance to Ride
Theme park fans are advised to plan their visits before 2 August to catch one final ride on a piece of theme park history, and to stay tuned for further updates on Kumba’s Revenge.
