COTALAND, the new theme park being built at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Central Texas, has officially postponed its full opening until 2026, according to recent statements from park officials.

What We Know

  • Initially, COTALAND was expected to open partially in time for the 2025 United States Grand Prix, held October 17-19, 2025.
  • Due to ongoing construction and other logistical challenges, the park’s opening has now been pushed back. COTA Vice President of Theme Park Operations, Matt Hughey, confirmed that 2026 is the likely target for full readiness.
  • A key milestone was recently achieved: the completion of the Circuit Breaker roller coaster, one of the park’s headline attractions.

What to Expect at COTALAND

Though the park will open later than originally hoped, the delay comes with assurances that much of the planned features are progressing well. Among the highlights:

  • Nearly 30 rides on about 30 acres, including several “first in Texas” attractions.
  • Circuit Breaker, the state’s first tilt coaster.
  • Palindrome, the first U.S. Gerstlauer Infinity Coaster.
  • Sky Blazer, a major pendulum swing ride that also promises to be a standout attraction.

Why the Delay?

Park officials have cited several reasons for pushing the opening to 2026:

  • Construction logistics — many rides and structures are still being built, and weather or supply issues could further affect timelines.
  • Testing and safety certification — important for roller coasters and thrill rides, particularly new types like the tilt coaster.
  • Avoiding a rushed launch — the park is working to ensure a smooth, high-quality experience for visitors rather than hurrying to meet the earlier goal.

What This Means for Visitors & the Region

Visitors expecting to ride this fall are likely to be disappointed. There may still be opportunities to experience a ride or two earlier (e.g. test or preview runs), but the full park won’t be open until next year.

For the local economy, COTALAND remains a significant development. Along with the theme park, there are plans for hotel and convention center projects in Del Valle near COTA, expected to boost tourism and job creation.
