SeaWorld San Antonio has officially opened Barracuda Strike, the tallest inverted family coaster in North America. Following an exclusive preview for Pass Members, the attraction is now welcoming its first public riders.
The roller coaster’s layout is positioned along the edge of the park’s central lake. Because the seats are suspended beneath the track, riders experience a 'feet-dangling' sensation as they soar over the water and skim through the treetops.
Unlike traditional inverted coasters, Barracuda Strike features no inversions, focusing instead on smooth, swooping dives and sharp, banked turns.
A New Class of Thrill
Manufactured by Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M), Barracuda Strike is designed to bridge the gap between kiddie coasters and the park’s high-intensity thrill rides.
Key Technical Stats:
- Height: 90-foot lift hill.
- Top Speed: 44 mph.
- Track Length: 1,800 feet.
- Height Requirement: 42 inches.
Strengthening the Family Lineup
The addition of Barracuda Strike continues SeaWorld San Antonio’s recent trend of expanding its family-friendly offerings, following the opening of the Rescue Jr. area last year. By offering a 'medium thrill' experience with a 42-inch height requirement, the park aims to provide a coaster that younger guests can enjoy alongside more seasoned thrill-seekers.
Barracuda Strike is now open and included with standard park admission, but is also available as a one-time 'Quick Queue' option for those looking to bypass the lines during the spring break rush.
Celebrating STEM and Leadership
To celebrate the grand opening during Women’s History Month, the official ribbon-cutting ceremony honored the female leadership team at SeaWorld San Antonio who were instrumental in the project. The park also hosted Latinitas, a local after-school program focused on STEM and leadership for young girls, highlighting the engineering and technology required to bring such an attraction to life.
