Six Flags Great America is officially turning 50, and the park is pulling out all the stops for a golden anniversary. It originally opened in 1976 as Marriott's Great America, and so the upcoming 2026 season will be dedicated to celebrating five decades of thrills and family memories.

The centerpiece of the year is a dedicated 50th Anniversary Nighttime Spectacular, which is scheduled to run from June 20 through August 9, 2026.

A Summer of Spectacles

The anniversary event will be anchored by an all-new Nighttime Spectacular, described as the theme park's most ambitious nighttime entertainment experience to date. This production includes:

  • Daily Stage Show & Parade: A new high-energy performance and a parade featuring brand-new, custom-designed floats.
  • Weekend Drone Shows: Every Friday through Sunday night, a dazzling drone display will illuminate the sky to honor the park's 50-year history.
  • Decade-Themed Entertainment: Live performances throughout the park will blend music and costumes inspired by every decade from the 1970s to today.

Reliving the Legacy

For fans who grew up with the park, several nostalgic additions are returning to the lineup:

  • Legacy Museum: Located in the Emporium, this new space will house historic artifacts, archival photos, retired signage, and memorabilia.
  • The Return of the Ice Cream Parlor: Reimagining a fan-favorite from the 1976 opening year, a new Ice Cream Parlor in Hometown Square will serve classic scoops and nostalgic flavors.
  • Nostalgic Dining: The park will introduce specialty food and beverages, including classic root beer inspired by 1976 offerings.

Leave Your Mark

Any guests looking to become a permanent part of the park's history can participate in the Anniversary Brick Program. Personalized bricks will be installed along the "Great America Legacy Path" in Carousel Plaza. These can be purchased through the official anniversary brick website and can include nods to favorite attractions or family milestones.
