Universal Orlando Resort has confirmed that one of its most storied attractions is getting a fresh, terrifying update. The iconic live theater show at Universal Studios Florida will officially reopen under the title Universal Horror Make-Up Show featuring Blumhouse.

The classic attraction, which has been closed for refurbishment since May 2026, is set to undergo a complete visual and thematic update before welcoming guests back later this winter.

Over 100 Years of Horror: Classic Monsters Meet Modern Thrills

Universal announced the shift across its official social media channels, giving fans a glimpse into what the revamped production will offer:

"In this live show, discover how Hollywood's top special effects artists have terrified moviegoers for over 100 years — from Universal's classic monsters to the modern horrors of Blumhouse."

For decades, the show has balanced behind-the-scenes practical effects demonstrations with comedic host interaction and audience participation. While Universal has confirmed that the legacy of classic silver-screen monsters will remain a core focus, the addition of Blumhouse introduces a modern portfolio of contemporary blockbusters.

Blumhouse Productions, in which Universal holds a majority stake, is responsible for some of the most prominent modern horror franchises, including Five Nights at Freddy's, M3GAN, The Purge, Get Out, The Black Phone, Insidious, and Paranormal Activity. Although Universal has yet to confirm which specific titles will appear inside the theater, the partnership provides a vast array of practical and digital effect concepts to explore.

"A Floor-to-Ceiling Transformation"

Following the announcement, Michael Aiello, a longtime creative lead at Universal Orlando, shared insights on social media regarding the scale of the update. Aiello highlighted that the project represents an extensive visual reimagining from floor to ceiling, designed to modernize the venue whilst maintaining the signature balance of horror and humor that parkgoers expect.

Longtime visitors will also be pleased to learn that the update aims to respect the legacy of the original experience. Key elements of the classic production format, including live special effects work, will returnAlongside updated set pieces and visual displays.

A Legacy Opening-Day Attraction

When Universal Studios Florida opened its gates in 1990, the Horror Make-Up Show was among the park's flagship offerings. Following the planned closure of the nearby Animal Actors show, the Horror Make-Up Show and E.T. Adventure will stand as the final two remaining opening-day attractions operating at Universal Studios Florida.

Universal has not yet specified an exact date for the reopening, confirming only that details will follow as the scheduled winter 2026 debut approaches.
