Wild Waves Theme & Water Park has officially announced that the 2026 operating season will be its final year, with the park scheduled to open on May 23, 2026, and permanently close to the public on November 1, 2026.
The announcement was confirmed by Premier Parks, LLC, the operator of Wild Waves, citing ongoing financial challenges following the park’s reopening after the COVID-19 shutdown.
One of the Pacific Northwest’s most iconic amusement destinations will soon come to an end.
“We are thankful for our guests, team members, and the community of Federal Way for supporting Wild Waves and creating so many thrills and great memories with families and friends,” said Kieran Burke, President and Owner of Premier Parks. “Unfortunately, the rising cost of ongoing operations since reopening after the COVID shutdown has generated millions in losses, which forces us to discontinue operations at the end of our 2026 season.”
A Full Final Season Planned
Despite the closure announcement, park leadership emphasized that Wild Waves will deliver a complete and active final season in 2026. Guests can expect the full lineup of rides and attractions, water park operations throughout the summer, and the return of the park’s popular Fright Fest Halloween event in the fall.
“In its final year of operation, the park will celebrate the memories, nostalgia, and family fun with themed events and special promotions,” Burke added.
All previously purchased 2026 season passes, tickets, and group events will be fully honored, according to the park.
A Regional Landmark Since 1977
Wild Waves first opened in 1977 and has since welcomed millions of guests from across Washington and the greater Pacific Northwest. Spanning 70 acres, the park is known for its unique combination of theme park rides and outdoor water attractions, including the Timber Hawk – Ride of Prey wooden roller coaster and the Pacific Plunge slide complex.
At its peak season, Wild Waves employs approximately 35 full-time staff and 800 seasonal team members, making it a significant local employer.
Future Plans for the Site
The land is owned by Jeff Stock of EPI Realty Holdings, Inc., who has partnered with Premier Parks for many years. Stock acknowledged the emotional connection many locals have with the park and stated that future redevelopment plans are still in early stages.
“We recognize the deep history and emotional connection many residents have with the park, and we are committed to ensuring a respectful transition while planning a project that will bring meaningful, lasting benefits to the area,” Stock said.
Additional information regarding redevelopment will be shared as plans progress through planning and community review processes.
Looking Ahead
While the announcement marks the end of an era, Wild Waves’ leadership is positioning 2026 as a celebration of nearly five decades of thrills, family memories, and summer traditions.
Further details regarding operating hours, special events, and the 2026 season calendar will be released via the park’s official website.
