Kentucky Kingdom has announced its newest major attraction: Midnight Showdown, billed as the world's largest indoor wooden roller coaster.

Set to open in spring 2027, the record-breaking ride will serve as the seventh roller coaster in the Louisville theme park's lineup.

The coaster serves as the crown jewel of an all-new themed land called Bluegrass Downs, capping a five-year, nearly $50 million total transformation of the park led by operator Herschend.

Midnight Showdown: Coaster Stats and Theme

Designed and built by The Gravity Group of Cincinnati, will Midnight Showdown immerse riders in the high-stakes excitement of Kentucky's iconic horse racing culture.

• Type: Indoor Wooden Roller Coaster
• Track Length: 1,130 feet of pure wood track
• Height: Over three stories tall
• Capacity: Two trains seating 10 riders each (20 riders per cycle)
• Theming: Pounding hooves, white paddock fences, grand spires, and jockey-silk colors

Complete Park Transformation: Two New Lands for 2027

The addition of Midnight Showdown anchors the final stage of Kentucky Kingdom's multi-year overhaul, introducing two distinct themed environments:

Bluegrass Downs

Inspired by Kentucky's rich horse racing history, Bluegrass Downs completely reimagines five existing park rides to fit a vibrant racing paddock atmosphere, with Midnight Showdown standing as the central feature.

Happy Valley Farm

Celebrating the classic charm of Kentucky farm life, Happy Valley Farm brings a rustic barnyard setting filled with sunflowers, red gingham banners, and live bluegrass music. The area features eight reimagined family rides, including:

• Flying Fox (the suspended family coaster introduced in May 2026)
• Friendly Frogs
• Loopy Lambs
• Country Cruisers

These additions follow previous multi-million-pound enhancements by Herschend since acquiring the park in 2021, including the Discovery Meadow family area and expanded seasonal offerings such as Pumpkins at Kentucky Kingdom and Christmas at Kentucky Kingdom.

2027 Season Pass Details and Early Access

Kentucky Kingdom has put 2027 season passes on sale early starting at $69.99. Passholders purchasing for the 2027 season gain immediate admission to the remainder of the 2026 calendar for free.
