Six Flags New England has officially raised the curtain on its 12th roller coaster, Quantum Accelerator, marking a significant milestone for the park’s 2026 season.

The all-new attraction, which held its exclusive press preview on April 16, 2026, is now open to the general public, offering a unique "steampunk adventure" centered around high-speed, family-friendly thrills.

A New Breed of Speed: Dual-Launch Straddle Coaster

Quantum Accelerator distinguishes itself as New England’s first dual-launch straddle coaster. Manufactured by industry leader Intamin, the ride utilizes a "Jet Ski" straddle model where riders sit on custom-designed "hover bike" vehicles. Instead of traditional coaster cars, guests grip handlebars and lean forward in an open riding position, secured by individual lap bars.

The experience is defined by two distinct launch sequences:

  • Initial Launch: A zero-to-30 mph start directly out of the station.
  • Secondary Boost: A mid-course launch using Intamin’s friction wheel technology, propelling the train to a top speed of 45 mph.

Ride Highlights and Engineering

Despite its compact footprint, the layout is packed with technical maneuvers designed to provide a "weightless" sensation.

Key features include:

  • The Stengel Dive: A signature maneuver named after designer Werner Stengel, which tilts riders into an overbanked turn immediately following a camelback hill.
  • Verticality: The ride reaches a maximum height of 59 feet.
  • Airtime: The 2,604-foot track includes 11 airtime moments, including a fly-over above the loading station.
  • Innovative Chassis: The trains feature a new weld-free, aluminum-machined chassis designed to increase long-term reliability and reduce maintenance needs.

Revamping Crackaxle Canyon

The debut of Quantum Accelerator serves as the centerpiece for a broader refresh of the Crackaxle Canyon area.

  • Dining: JB’s Smokehouse has introduced new menu items like sirloin steak sandwiches to celebrate the ride's opening, while Doc Pemberton’s Refresh Station has been updated with new beverage options.
  • Retail: The nearby Screamore Gadgets shop has been stocked with new retail offerings for the 2026 season.

Planning Your Visit

Quantum Accelerator is designed to be accessible to a wide range of thrill-seekers, though it does have specific height requirements:

  • Minimum Height: 48 inches (1.2m).
  • Maximum Height: 77 inches.

For those looking to visit this season, Six Flags has announced that 2026 Gold Season Passes now include regional access to other East Coast destinations, including Six Flags Great Adventure and Hurricane Harbor New Jersey.
