The new Battle For Eire virtual reality ride has opened at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, replacing the former Europe in the Air experience in the Ireland area of the theme park.
Utilizing virtual reality (VR) headsets and the state-of-the-art motion simulator located in the former Europe in the Air attraction, the new experience is the first of its kind in the US.
Busch Gardens Williamsburg has decided to shut down the Curse of DarKastle attraction.
Curse of DarKastle was a hybrid 3D dark ride like The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man at Universal's Islands of Adventure, and Transformers: The Ride at Universal Studios Florida and Universal Studios Hollywood, but with an original story.
It was one of the best themed rides in the park and very immersive. We
were fortunate enough to be able to experience it as part of our 11 Parks in 11 States Tour.
The ride opened in 2005 and was one of the first attractions of its kind, featuring a ride system developed by Oceaneering International. The vehicles were capable of a series of motions as they moved through the attraction, programmed to synchronize with the video screens and special effects.
Busch Gardens Williamsburg posted on their Facebook page:
"The ride building will transform into a special events venue starting this year. While the ride maintained a loyal following over the last 13 years, we will be able to now offer new & exciting opportunities for Howl-O-Scream, Christmas Town & other events."
