SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment has announced a new theme park, Sesame Place San Diego, the company’s second Sesame Street park, which will open in the spring of 2021.
Sesame Place will feature seven themed dry rides, an interactive musical play area, and eleven water attractions including a 500,000 gallon wave pool – one of the largest in Southern California. The park will also have an interactive Sesame Street Neighborhood complete with the iconic 123 Stoop, live character shows, a daily parade and hugs from your favorite furry friends!
The new 17-acre Sesame Place will be located 20 miles from of SeaWorld San Diego in Chula Vista, California. The current Aquatica San Diego will close during 2020 and begin it's transformation into Sesame Place San Diego. Many of the existing water slides will be re-themed.
Steve Youngwood, Sesame Workshop:
“As we celebrate Sesame Street’s 50th anniversary, we are excited to share the news of a major opportunity for kids and families to connect with and learn from the brand and its beloved characters.”
“The opening of Sesame Place San Diego will give guests a unique and powerful way to experience Sesame Street, enable us to connect with even more families, and further our educational mission.”
Marilyn Hannes, SeaWorld San Diego:
“It's a significant investment for the company. This will be the first new Sesame Place park in 40 years. It certainly expands our commitment to the San Diego region, as well as to theme parks in the United States. It is a big decision and big investment for us.”
The original Sesame Place theme park, near Philadelphia in Pennsylvania, opened in 1980. It includes a variety of rides, shows and water attractions suited to young children.
