Apex Parks Group has shut down its two theme parks in the United States, Indiana Beach in Monticello and upstate New York’s Fantasy Island.
The sudden closures have been attributed to poor operating results, despite significant effort and a great deal of investment in infrastructure, rides and new themed areas,
A statement from Indiana Beach:
"Regrettably, Indiana Beach is closing and ceasing operations. We are grateful for the many years we’ve had together and appreciate your support and patronage."
A statement from Fantasy Island:
“This was not a decision entered into lightly. Team members are being assisted by their supervisors and the company is working to minimize impact to those affected.”
Apex Parks Group has contacted several US amusement parks with offers to sell rides from Indiana Beach and Fantasy Island.
Indiana Beach, located on Lake Shafer in Monticello, opened in 1926. Popular rides included the Cornball Express and Hoosier Hurricane wooden coaster coasters.
Fantasy Island, located on Grand Island in New York, opened in 1961. The Custom Coasters International wooden roller coaster Silver Comet was the best known ride at the park.
